    Reel has a nice strong drag system at 22lbs, which is more than you'll ever need for freshwater fishing. The drag system is supple and smooth, even though it uses felt disc washers. I'll be eventually upgrading the felt discs to carbon discs for better durability.

    One issue, was the line was laying top heavy meaning their was more line on the top of the spool than on the bottom. Now this spool is designed to have a very slight taper outwards towards the top and that would account for normal laying that looks top heavy, but is still even with a slight taper of a few degrees. The problem I ran into was it was a very large taper which meant the line was definitely laying more line up top.

    This meant the spool needed to be shifted up slightly. The fix is easy enough with the plastic washers. You don't need to completely fill the spool with line either to tell if needs to be adjusted. After filling the spool about 1/4 of the way, you'll be able to see if the line with a slight taper, or a huge taper towards the top. If it's laying a lot more line up top, then you'll need to add a washer. After adding a washer, it was laying line like it should with a slight tapering towards the top.

    I've also noticed pictures of people cutting the washers to fit as they are "too big." What these people don't realize is this reel has a bearing supporting the spool. On spools without a bearing the bottom is flush inside the spool and is literally just as simple as adding or removing a washer onto the shaft. Because of the bearing, it is recessed as the bearing fits into the recessed area. In order to add a washer you have to pull the bearing off the shaft first. Then slide the washer into the shaft and slide the bearing back on. The washers are not to go on top of the bearing since they are bigger and won't fit into the recessed area. Also, if you cut the washers down to make them fit on top of the bearing, you've essentially eliminated the purpose of the bearing as it now doesn't sit properly inside the recessed area for optimal performance.

    On the first day of fishing where it was subjected to normal use and loads associated with fishing, it developed a grinding vibration as I cranked the handle like the gears inside were slipping and not in sync with each other. I was able to exchange the reel hassle free.

    Update: I've now used the replacement reel for a good solid 4 months putting it through it's paces and have to say it's super smooth and simply amazing.
